Engagement Session at the National Portrait Gallery: Trevon & Joy’s Love Story

March 24th, 2023

Love has a way of finding us when we least expect it, and for Trevon and Joy, it arrived right on time. Their journey, which began with a simple Instagram DM, blossomed into a beautiful relationship, culminating in a stunning engagement session at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC.

Originally, we had planned to capture their love story outdoors, but as any local will tell you, the DMV’s weather can be unpredictable. On this particular March day, the skies opened up, and we were greeted with rain. But just like their love story, we embraced the unexpected and found a silver lining by pivoting to the breathtaking interiors of the National Portrait Gallery.

Joy and Trevon's love story is one of destiny and timing. They met in college, though their paths didn’t cross romantically back then. Trevon was focused on his relationships, while Joy was immersed in her studies, not even giving him a second thought. But as fate would have it, years later, a casual conversation sparked through an Instagram poll led to something far more profound.

Their connection was immediate. What started with days of talking and exchanging voice notes quickly turned into all-night conversations that stretched until 6 a.m. Just a week into their rekindled friendship, Joy decided it was time to get some clarity. She asked Trevon if he was looking for something temporary or long-term. Initially unsure, Trevon took a couple of days to reflect before coming back with a definitive answer: he was all in. From that moment on, they were inseparable, and a year later, on December 18, 2022, Trevon asked Joy to be his forever.

The engagement session began on the third floor of the National Portrait Gallery in the Luce Foundation Center, where the classic black and white checkered floors provided the perfect backdrop for their formal attire. Joy looked stunning in a silk red dress with a thigh-high slit, and Trevon matched her elegance in a black tux. The grandeur of the space allowed for some truly dramatic and romantic shots, especially as Joy’s dress twirled against the monochrome floor.

We then moved to the balcony area for a few intimate photos, capturing their connection in a more secluded setting. The soft light filtering through the windows added a touch of warmth to these moments, making the images feel cozy and personal.

Next, we ventured down to the art galleries on the second floor. Here, the couple’s love for culture and history came to life as they posed amidst the stunning artwork. Their admiration for each other was palpable, creating an atmosphere where the art almost faded into the background, highlighting their bond instead.

For the final part of the session, Trevon and Joy changed into more casual attire. We explored the first floor of the museum, where they continued to admire the artwork and each other. These candid moments captured their playful side, showing that their love is as much about friendship and fun as it is about romance.

In the end, the rain that initially seemed like a challenge became a blessing in disguise. It allowed us to explore the hidden gems of the National Portrait Gallery, creating a unique and unforgettable engagement session for Trevon and Joy. Their story is a testament to the beauty of timing and the magic that happens when you’re open to life’s unexpected turns.
